The other quaint tradition is that if you don't bring at least a gift of €5,000 for the new couple they will suck the flesh from your face (as in the lad below) over a 24 hour period before tying you up and leaving you for the fire ants.
Weddings are a lot of pressure in Italy. Same as everywhere I guess.
